Schoology in Action
It's one thing to talk about Schoology, but it's helpful to see what it looks like in an established class. The screenshots below will be instructive.
Below is a class home page for a technology applications course. You'll notice there are 2 assignments (projects) and 39 tests/quizzes (most of which are actually gradable assignments). On the right side of the screen you will see all the upcoming assignments, broken down by due date.

One of Schoology's many fantastic features is its grade book, located on the left side of the page. The grade book shows what students scored on each project. You can even click on a student's score and see exactly what they answered on each question of the assignment, test or quiz. This makes grading a piece of cake because, well, the computer did all the work for you! You can also attach comments to any grade for documentation purposes. Schoology also has a grade export feature, which will export the grades in an Excel spreadsheet.
Not only is Schoology armed with a robust grade book, it also allows you to easily document attendance. Simply click once on the date next to the student's name, and they are present (green check mark). Click again and they will be marked absent (red x). Click once more and they will be marked tardy (blue L). Click one more time and the student will be marked as an excused absence (green E).
Another wonderful tool is how easy it is to grade submitted projects. When students submit their work, whether it's a paper or PowerPoint, they can submit it through an assignment dropbox. When you click on the assignment, you will see a list of all the students who have submitted. This list is on the right side of the page and you'll notice that it even tells you if the student submitted it on time or not.
To grade a submitted assignment, you can do one of two things. First, you can click the little download symbol above the student names and you will download a folder of all student assignments, broken down into individual student folders. OR (our preferred method), you can simply click on the avatar of the student to bring up the assignment IN THE BROWSER! This is shown below. Here you can quickly examine the browser's best rendering of the assignment. To input a grade, simply type it in the box at the top of the screen. You can also type comments to the student and/or upload a return file to the student. Pretty slick, right?
The final screenshot examines the Resources section. The Resources link is located at the top of the screen. Here, you can upload all the files and links you find useful. This becomes a convenient online repository, moving your files into the cloud, which is quite helpful, especially when you use the same resources year to year.
